How To: Properly Wear an Irish Claddagh Ring

The Irish Claddagh Ring is one of the most favorite rings for people of Irish descent to wear. Even though this ring is simple in style, it holds great meaning and origin to those who wear it.

Moreover, how one wears the Irish Claddagh ring can determine a lot about a person that you may not know; like relationship status. So how exactly does one properly wear an Irish Claddagh ring?

The Irish Claddagh Ring has three parts to it; the hands, the heart and the crown. Each of these three parts has a meaning and is a representation of 3 sentiments:

Hands = Friendship  |  Heart = Love  |  Crown = Loyalty

The Irish Claddagh is the ultimate symbol of love and unity. Long ago (way before social media), people wore the Claddagh design to express relationship status.

If one wears a Claddagh ring on the right hand, with the heart facing outward it means that the wearer is open to love and is currently not in a relationship. If one wears the ring on the same hand, with the heart facing inward, it means the wearer is in a relationship and they are taken.

If one wears the ring on the left hand with the heart facing outward it means the wearer is engaged or in a lifelong partnership. If one wears the ring on the same hand with the heart pointing inwards, it means the wearer is married.

Over the years, the Irish Claddagh ring design has evolved and changed and various interpretations of the original design allow for both men and women to wear it. They are exchanged as a ring of meaning and sentiment and signify a special connection.

The enduring symbols of love, loyalty, and friendship are as important today as they were back in the day - and whether you are a fan of the classic, or prefer a more contemporary look, the Irish Claddagh Ring is a gorgeous heirloom that can be worn, enjoyed, and loved by all.
