March’s Birthstone is the tranquil Aquamarine. Aquamarine's name comes from the Latin term for “seawater”, and ancient mariners claimed the gem would calm waves and keep sailors safe at sea.
Sailors believed that aquamarine talismans, etched with the likeness of the Sea God Neptune, protected them against ocean dangers and drowning. They also believed that mermaids’ tails were made of aquamarine - and called it the “Treasure of Mermaids” which could make sailors secure at sea.
It’s no surprise that the gem is named after seawater since its color is that of seawater; blue-green hues that resemble the most idyllic parts of the sea. However, Aquamarine is actually a mineral beryl that forms from cooling magma deep inside of the Earth.
Aquamarine is thought to exude a calming and soothing influence, and that those who wear aquamarine will remain level-headed and calm during stressful situations. It holds a healing energy and is linked to the throat chakra - which is thought to help wearers with communication, self-expression, and tranquility.
We can include an Aquamarine stone in any of our pieces of PaulaMax jewelry. Be sure to browse through our collection and get what you need for someone who has a March birthday, anniversary, an honorable moment, or for someone who wants to wear the "treasure of mermaids" all year long.
